It was the best finale of the four-day St. Louis Fashion Week tour de force.

The daytime Launch show on Friday presented by DIYStyle showcased the designs of Conjetta by Connie Bourgeois, ML by Maggie Laskowitz, Stiles by Courtney Stiles, Allyce King Designs by Allyce King

… And a proposal by Ryan Stiles, 26, of Frontenac.

Ryan’s girlfriend of two years, Britney Blue, 24, of Ladue was modeling his sister’s creation, a gorgeous strapless wedding dress inspired by the romance and elegance of the 1920s.

He said that he saw a photo of Britney in the wedding dress just the day before. It was taken for a small pamphlet Courtney created to promote her line. He said that Britney looked so lovely in that dress that he knew he wanted to ask her to marry him.

“It was a totally random thought and I just knew it was the right time,” said Ryan who noted that he was still a little nervous that she wouldn’t say, “yes.”

He bought the ring on Friday at Diamond and Jewelry Brokers in Lafayette Square right before the 1 p.m. fashion show.

At the end of the hour-long runway presentation, the announcer called Britney back onstage because she was told that they would be presenting someone in the audience with a prize. Instead, Ryan grabbed a cordless microphone and walked toward her. He said he had a question for her.

Someone from the audience heckled, “You better say, ‘yes’.”

He dropped to one knee on the white catwalk underneath the blazing lights and asked her to marry him. They whispered something privately and then she did, in fact say, nod and gesture, “yes.”

The crowd applauded and cheered just like they always do in the movies.

By the way, the dress sells for $1,570 at CourtneyStilesDesigns.com.
