Crean’s Dumes update: No update
Indiana coach Tom Crean remained non-committal Saturday about the status of guard Devan Dumes for Sunday’s game against Illinois. The Hoosiers’ leading scorer is suspended indefinitely for elbow-throwing incidents against Michigan State.
“It is still internal,” he said. “We’ll just have to wait and see. I’m not being evasive. I’m not trying to hold it from you. I’m not trying to play strategy games. We’re just going day by day with this.”
Dumes missed last week’s game against Minnesota, and thus is eligible to return per the Big Ten’s agreement with the penalty handed down by Indiana. The game is a sellout and will be televised by CBS.
“It is just what we said we were going to do when it first happened,” Crean said. “Putting him out there in front of (the media) where it got picked up nationally like that. It is a whole process. There is no question. I’ve talked to (athletic director) Fred Glass about it. I’ve talked to the league office. We want to do the right thing, but at the same time there are steps all along the way.
“That is what I mean by internal. I’m just not sharing that publicly. It doesn’t mean that we’ve just blown it off. He has been with us every step of the way and that is really what it will come down to.”
