Illini-Gonzaga basketball game moved to Jan. 2
Basketball coach Bruce Weber told the Decatur Herald & Review that the team’s game with Gonzaga has been moved from Dec. 5 to Jan. 2.
It will still be played at the United Center in Chicago.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5. But when the Illini football schedule was revised and a home game against Fresno State was shifted to that date, university officials decided the conflict needed to be resolved.
The university looked at moving the basketball game to Sunday, Dec. 6 but the Bears are home that day against the Rams.
The Jan. 2 date, with CBS televising, appears to have satisfied the problem.
“It looks like we will have one Big Ten game played by that time,” Weber told the paper. “But this was the best scenario for us and for TV and for Gonzaga.
“I think it’s a great situation. We can take center stage in Chicago right after the new year.”
