Universal cancer screenings to get new look

All men and women of a certain age have been encouraged for years to get prostate or breast cancer screenings. But all those screenings have led to some false positives and overtreatment. Some slow-growing cancers would never prove to be fatal, but the patient endures cancer treatments and side effects. Screenings also don’t catch all deadly tumors.

While most doctors agree that universal screenings can be beneficial, the American Cancer Society is preparing an advisory statement that also includes the risks of screenings. You can read more about it in a New York Times article here.
