Tips for exercising in cold weather
Two years ago my friend, Zeta Cooper, and I were running on a morning when the temperature had dipped to the single digits — and that’s without the windchill. I’d put on running tights and several layers of shirts. About 2 miles into the run, I mentioned to Zeta that you could probably stick an ice pick in my thighs, and I wouldn’t feel it. We turned around and headed home. Later, when I slipped out of those tights, the skin on my thighs was dark blue. It was rather scary. So it is, that I bring you advice from the Mayo Clinic on dressing for exercise in cold weather.
And for those who say exercising in cold weather hurts their lungs — slow down. You’re gulping in too much icy air.
