About 5,000 doses of H1N1 influenza vaccine arrived today in St. Louis County, public health officials announced. The doses, in nasal spray form, will be distributed starting tomorrow to health care workers.

St. Charles County health officials also announced today that 1,900 doses of nasal spray are being shipped to health care providers in the county directly from the manufacturer. Anyone eligible for the spray, people ages 2 to 49 without any chronic conditions, should call their doctor about availability.

The nasal spray is only available to certain people because it carries activated H1N1 virus. Vials of H1N1 shots (which contain inactivated virus) are expected to arrive soon and will be first distributed to pregnant women, people with asthma and other chronic conditions and children, all high-risk groups for contracting the swine flu.

Health officials say the vaccine shipments should continue throughout October.

Here’s a video of crowds lining up for seasonal shots at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

We need some county health officials who can figure out a better way. Only small numbers of hospital staffs have received any vaccine, yet they are giving it out the general public. So don’t bother coming to the hospital when you get desperately ill. We will be at home sick. Yeah, we should let the government run the healthcare system. This is a perfect example of why they need to stay out of it. Absolutely unbelievable.
