Mark your calendar for 7 p.m. Monday,  May 18, when Maryland Heights city government has a hearing on the proposed Aquaport-Creve Coeur Park Trail.
A public hearing will be in the Maryland Heights Centre, 2344 McKelvey Road. Citizens will learn about the proposed project and offer comments.
The city wants to build a two-mile asphalt trail between the two facilities. Anyone can attend the hearing because the regional Great Rivers Greenway agency is helping to draw up plans. Great Rivers Greenway promotes and creates, trails, green spaces and parks throughout the St. Louis region.
The Aquaport-Creve Coeur Park trail was included in the final recommendations of the Citizens Advisory Group on Greenways and Trails, a board looking at places to build parks and trails.

Is the Aquaport-Creve Coeur Lake Trail connector a good idea?

Good plan, will flood (flash) during heavy rain temporarily, but love the idea. How about sidewalks down from Creve Coeur Mill to Smoke Rise on McKelvey so nobody gets killed while trying to get there from the north?
Too much cut through to Dorsett…speeding traffic/narrow road/curves!

I hope this is successful. Although city government has shown interest in trails, some residents of Maryland Heights have a history of animosity toward any trail efforts. Several years ago, a citizens committee to study trails was met with crowds of people at the meetings who opposed these efforts.

Trails and sidewalks are an important part of any city. However, some Maryland Heights residents feel that a trail near your property invades your privacy and is an invitation to crime in a way that a road up to your property is not. I hope attitudes have changed.

While remaining neutral, the trail would be in a place linking two places already packed with tourists and recreational events including loud boat races. Would that quell some fears?

I love how paying for it is part of the voting. Heck, Maryland Heights has truckloads of money via the Casino. I am sure they can afford it.

I never understand the citizens panty wad tightening over these issues. Was the trail going through their backyard? Did they think it would bring in the “biker bar” crowd?

In Overland we had similar issues when trying to build a bike path along/down Midland. This road is wide, with wide shoulders. It even has a median where a bike path could be placed. Still, citizens were so up in arms about this as if we would have cyclists in their front yards.

it would be well-used, an asset to the community and long-awaited (if it does comes to pass).

I live in Maryland Heights and I support trails throughout our city and region, especially this Aquaport-Creve Coeur Park Trail. What a great way to enhance and improve our quality of life! Go trails!
