Give thanks to a nurse
In today’s paper, I wrote a story about 3-year-old Kyle McCarty, finally heading home after spending nearly all his life in the hospital — over 2 hours away from his family. What gave his mom comfort was knowing that the hospital staff treated him like their own child.
One commenter on my story called nurses “unsung heroes.” That gave me this idea. Let’s use the blog to let people share their stories about nurses. How did a nurse help you through your hospital stay? Comfort you while a loved one was sick? Write about it as a way to say thanks.

Michele Munz has been at the Post-Dispatch for 11 years, first covering crime in St. Charles County, then as a general assignment reporter and now is excited to add health issues to her beat. She ran track and cross-country for the University of Arkansas, but lately has been running less and doing dance and yoga more. She is lucky to work part-time, so she can chase after her three daughters, ages 7, 5 and 2.
