Poll: Will you get the H1N1 vaccine?

Federal health authorities have rushed to make the swine flu vaccine available, and the first distribution of 600,000 doses begins Tuesday. Millions more will follow. Clinical trials testing the short-term safety and effectiveness of the vaccine, involving more than 4,600 people, have been a success.

Yet, a recent Harvard School of Public Health poll shows that only about 40 percent are sure they would receive the vaccine, and only half were sure to get their children vaccinated.  That is slightly up from a Consumer Reports poll take the first week of September, which showed only 35 percent of parents were certain to have their children vaccinated.

The newness of the vaccine and whether it had been tested long enough were concerns among parents, according to the Consumer Reports poll. Over 40 percent of parents were also not worried about their kids getting the swine flu, since most suffer mild symptoms and recover at home.

The Centers for Disease Control and prevention recommends that everyone ages 6 months to 24 years, pregnant women and adults with chronic health problems get the vaccine. The CDC reports 60 pediatric deaths related to H1N1 since April, 11 this past week.

Will you get the H1N1 vaccine for you or your children?

In my personal opinion, there has been unnecessary fear instilled in our country about the H1N1 virus. It is just another strain of the flu. I don’t think anyone who normally wouldn’t get the flu vaccine, should get it. Our bodies were made with an immune system for a reason. In order for our immune system to be strong, we need to let it do it’s job. Which in part, is fighting off infections. Our society seems to be expecting a drug to fix everything for them. I just had a relative (27 yrs old and otherwise healthy)last week who got a horrible headache and sore throat. A friend of hers immediately said oh, no! it could be H1N1 you better go to the doctor. I told her she should not freak out and does not need to run to her doctor; she needs to stay hydrated, get rest, and treat her symptoms. Guess what? Four days later, she was fully recovered and back at work.

No, don’t get the regular flu vaccine - no plans to get this version either. Agree with what young1forevr posted. Besides that, I don’t trust these vaccines, nor do I trust the testing behind this particular version.

I will get it - but only to protect my 4 week old baby.

oh hellz no-it’s a secret plot to “thin the herd.”

*This PSA has been brought to you by the Republican Party and the new PAC for Palin for President 2012″

You idiots deserve to get sick…I just pray to God that you don’t have children. While the media has hyped this, it is REAL and necessary precautions should be taken.

GOP mole-whack - thanks for sharing your intelligent post. Contrary to your inept BS, not everyone that prefers to not get vaccinated is under that umbrella that you paint. Myself, I prefer precautions and common sense, versus being injected with a drug that to my knowledge has not really been proven, and I do not desire to be a guinea pig.

Since act as if you are so much more knowledgeable, I will leave it to your own devices to educate yourself on the potential risks vs. benefit of ANY vaccine, and in particular this one… that has been fast-tracked, etc.

BTW, thank you for your warm wishes… that is so kind and generous of you. Strangely, the only one here that is speaking such political rubbish is your post - maybe its you that needs to look in the mirror when spouting off such rubbish.

PS: the necessary precautions are the same, as with any communicable disease. And for myself and my family that will be the path taken, no vaccines that are not fully proven, effectively or safely.

I’m married to a doctor, you tool, so I think that I am well aware of the risks. As to your comment about the “fast-tracked” vaccine and not wanting to be a guinea pig, that sounds like a statement from a religious wacko who doesn’t trust doctors. I hope that you don’t have young children who are having their health compromised by your misguided BS and Oprah-esque approach to medical issues.

p.s. You gave YOUR political leanings away by your reply. You probably are a “Birther” too.

Concern overinformation that It has been confirmed by labs in Europe and the US that the H1N1 flu vaccine does contain nano particles which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say boosts the immune system by going directly to lymph glands.
However, nano particles also embed themselves in the cellular membranes and can not be removed.

I will get it as will my children because of our weakened immune systems (I’m pregnant and my son has asthma) I just hope we have quick access to it. I think alot of the naysayers are pretty ignorant of the fact there are babies and other people who CANNOT get immunized who will be quite vulnerable to the illness. So while they may want to take their chances with the new flu ”the natural way” - unfortunately, they are risking more than just their own health. On the other hand, I’m glad there’s not a run on the vaccine so I may be more likely to be able to get it. I have no desire to gamble with my health or my unborn child’s health.

GOP Mole Whack - who is your husband. I want to make sure I never see him as he is probably as whacky and nasty as you are.

I got the swine flu shot in 78 (?) and it really hurt and made me sick.
It now causes Epstein Bar syndrome. So no thanks.

Oh well…now that we know that you got sick from a DEAD strain (you do know they used DEAD strains, right), we should eliminate ALL flu vaccines. Are you frickin kidding me with this??? I’m the “whacky” one and you make some completely arbitrary and anecdotal comment about something from 20 years ago that is highly questionable to begin with…yeah, right. You probably take medical advice from Jenny McCarthy…

Freaks.
