St. Clair County mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
A batch of mosquitoes collected last week in Shiloh tested positive for West Nile virus, Illinois health officials said today.
The positive results are the first of the season in southern Illinois.
The first human cases of the season aren’t typically reported until July. Symptoms are similar to the flu and are usually mild.
Health officials recommend eliminating standing water around the house, sealing all windows and screens and wearing insect repellent to avoid mosquito bites.
Missouri health officials haven’t reported any West Nile virus activity in the state this year.
