SLU gets Illinois-Chicago
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
SLU’s men’s soccer team will face Illinois-Chicago in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday at Hermann Stadium. If they win, they’ll get No. 9 Northwestern, the team that eliminated them last year, in the second round next Wednesday in Chicago. The other seeded team in SLU’s part of the bracket is No. 8 Creighton.
The 16 seeds, in order: Boston College, Wake Forest, Connecticut, Indiana, Ohio State, Brown, Santa Clara, Creighton, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, UCSB, Maryland, Akron, West Virginia, Tulsa.

STL University soccer is something STL sports fans should be extremely proud of. No other sports team in STL comes close to acheiving the storied tradition of this school’s teams. I have never understood why the PD continually puts them on page 9 of the sports section and gives them only a paragraph or two.
Not to take away from the accomplishments of this year’s MU football team one iota, but the STLU soccer team lives in the national rankings year in and year out (not to mention their NCAA record of national championships). Maybe they’ve dipped a bit in the past few years. Maybe we lose much local talent to other colleges, but I can’t help believe that the lack of local recognition contributes to this exodus.
