Sauerbrunn makes U.S. debut, breaks nose
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Ladue High’s Becky Sauerbrunn made her debut for the full women’s national team, starting in their match against Canada on Wednesday in China. The Americans won 4-0 and Sauerbrunn broke her nose, slamming it against the back of a Canadian player’s head in the second half and having to leave the game. Lori Chalupny also started, but new coach Pia Sundhage moved her from the midfield, where she had excelled during the Women’s World Cup, to the back row, where she had played well the year before the WWC.

On a different topic, New England has not renewed the contract of Pat Noonan, making him a free agent who might go to Europe or sign with another MLS squad. New England hasn’t ruled out re-signing him.
