There will be a news conference at 2 p.m. on Thursday in Chester where “MLS Commissioner Don Garber will make a major announcement regarding the future of professional soccer in Philadelphia.”
I think we all know what that’s going to be.
Meanwhile, there have been some stories out of Miami that say that the city will only build a soccer stadium at the Orange Bowl site if a deal for an MLS team is done by June, because the city wants to build the Marlins’ new baseball stadium and the soccer stadium at the same time. They don’t want to open the baseball stadium and have construction on a soccer stadium going on at the same time. So unless Miami can get an ownership group in place and jump through all the hoops by June, which at this writing seems unlikely, South Florida will be out of the MLS expansion picture for a while. But, in the world of MLS expansion, really anything goes.
