Las Vegas is still interested in expansion
The guy who is heading the Las Vegas effort to get an MLS expansion team says he’s still interested and he thinks the city would be a good fit. Las Vegas would need a stadium — I think the only existing spot, Sam Boyd Stadium, is too big and has turf, though that seems like a problem that can be overcome — and the problem of it being really hot there in the summer would be an issue. But, as we’ve seen, if you’ve got a billionaire investor, a lot of other issues go by the wayside. I don’t think Las Vegas right now has a billionaire investor.
Not sure how I should feel about this paragraph:
MLS has talked about expanding to 20 teams, with St. Louis, Miami and other fringe cities on the candidate list, but it isn’t certain whether that could take place by 2012.
Is he calling us a fringe city?

We’ve gone from ‘next’, to ‘fringe’.
The MLS expansion process sucks.
This is off topic, but I picked this up off of Steve Goff’s blog in the Washington Post.
D.C. United has claimed midfielder John DiRaimondo, who was waived by the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday. DiRaimondo, who turns 23 next month, fills the developmental roster vacancy created when defender Ryan Miller was let go last week. The former Saint Louis University player has been in MLS for two years. He didn’t play in 2007, but made 11 league appearances (eight starts) and scored one goal for the Rapids last season.
