Superliga in St. Louis: Wizards vs. Atlas, June 21, at SLU (ticket update)

It’s apparently official. The Kansas City Wizards will play Mexican club Atlas on June 21 at SLU’s Hermann Stadium in an opening round, pool play, Superliga match. Tickets will range from $20 to $35. The start time will be 3:30.

Tickets in the grandstands at SLU will cost $35 or $30, and that will also give the purchaser a ticket to any Wizards game in Kansas City, except for the games against the Galaxy (Beckham) or Fire (Blanco). Bleachers will be set up in the end zone and sell for $20. Those won’t include tickets to a game in Kansas City. There’s a $5 discount for groups of more than 15. Those also won’t include tickets for a game in Kansas City.

The Wizards should bring their full roster for the match since it’s not crowded in by other games and, since the Superliga is run by MLS, there’s an incentive to use your first team. It’s the same day as the U.S. national team plays Egypt in the Confederations Cup in South Africa, but the Wizards shouldn’t be losing any players to that game.

Atlas, which plays in Guadalajara, was 5-6-6 in the Clausura, the second half of the Mexican split season, and tied for second in its group and was 13th overall. In the Apertura, the opening half of the season, Atlas had six wins, four ties and seven losses and finished fourth in its group. It was 11th overall.

I haven’t seen ticket information yet either, though it will obviously be forthcoming. If you can’t wait, you can call Brian Roth in the Wizards ticket office at 913-387-3839.

First off, I’d like to thank Tom Timmermann for posting all of the information about our Superliga game against Atlas on June 21st. Being from the area, it’s nice to see the spirited talk between the fans. I’ve always thought the soccer fans in the area are extremely knowledgeable and I know our players are excited to come to St. Louis for the game. We’ve already heard from several youth club coaches that are excited about the game and we really hope to put on a great show for the St. Louis fans. Tom graciously posted my direct line at the office, but additionally I can be reached at Broth@kcwizards.com if you have any questions.

Thank You,

Is that start time firm? The US plays Egypt in South Africa with a 1:30 p.m. start time…not to mention, the Cardinals play the Royals (in KC) with a 1:30 p.m. start time that day.

IMO, the MLS would be wise to push the start of this game back by a half-hour or more.

Tickets are on sale NOW and we’ve already received a great deal of calls for this game. I’m very confident that with all of the huge soccer fans in St. Louis, this game will indeed sell out.

I think this is a real test to see how many people show up, if the stadium is packed, I think the MLS will have to get a team immediatley, because imagine how much would show up if the home team is playing

We will most definitely be playing our TOP players. Since MLS cut the Reserve Division, our TOP players play in every game. We’re taking both the SuperLiga games and the US Open Cup games very seriously. Fans will definitely see Jack Jewsbury in the starting lineup when we come to St. Louis on June 21st….unless he gets injured between now and then, and let’s hope that doesn’t happen. Jack has been our most consistent player the last couple of years. I know he’s looking forward to coming back to SLU to play against Atlas and seeing some familiar faces.
