FENTON — The team was working on corner kicks, lots of corner kicks today. Lori Chalupny and Amanda Cinalli were taking them from the goalie’s left, Kerri Hanks from the right, with Tina Ellertson, Christie Welsh, Melissa Tancredi and Sara Larsson practicing getting on the end of them without a defense other than Hope Solo in goal. (Angie Woznuk, who took some of the corners against L.A. on Saturday, sat out this drill with an ice bag on her leg.) Coach Jorge Barcellos said the team’s problem was its timing on corners.
The best corner kicks of the day, hands down, were those taken by Barcellos.

Athletica goalie Hope Solo does a segment every Thursday morning on McGraw Milhaven’s show on KTRS. On Thursday, Solo missed her spot for the first time, after apparently oversleeping after the night game on Wednesday. To make it up to Milhaven, Solo had a cake made that said, “McGraw, I’m sorry,” and delivered it to the studio in person on Friday morning.
