Aluko picks up an assist; broadcast crew set for Saturday
Even though she’s in Europe at the moment, Athletica’s Eniola Aluko piced up an assist after the league reviewed game tapes and revised its box scores. The assist came in the game on May 3 on a goal by Daniela (boy, was that a long time ago). From the league: “WPS uses a continuous possession guideline for assists, and Aluko fed the ball to Daniela, so the assist will be credited.” That puts Aluko in a tie for third in the league with three assists.

Kansas City Wizards broadcaster Sean Wheelock and former US international Eric Wynalda will be behind the mikes for Saturday’s KPLR broadcast of the Athletica and Freedom. It will be Wynalda and Bill McDermott for the other KPLR game.

Expansion Atlanta has named its head coach. Gareth O’Sullivan will lead the team next year. He’s from Ireland and most recently was coaching in — Iceland. (Note that’s a C and not an R.) Prior to that, he coached collegiate soccer in America.

Sorry for the absence, but with Athletica gap and the All-Star Game, I’ve been busy doing other things.

WOW!!!!! Ok this might be the most stunning announcement of the year!!! I’m glad I didn’t bet on Wynalda doing our color commentary….I would have lost a ton of money on that one. It should be interesting to say the least.
Very exciting! I had no idea that Athletica were even on KPLR this Saturday!
Nice to see the KC Wizards able to assist the Athletica in some form. Sean Wheelock does a fine job for Wizards game. And if you didn’t know, he also had a small role in the movie “The Game Of Their Lives.” He has a few lines at the beginning of the movie in the press box.
