Aluko won’t miss Saturday’s game; Walsh ready to play

Athletica forward Eniola Aluko is in Europe right now for England’s game against Iceland on Thursday, but after the game, she will to Washington and join the team for Saturday’s game against the Freedom. England is also supposed to play Denmark next Wednesday, but the Athletica have gotten her out of that game so she will be back and will be in St. Louis for their game that day with Sky Blue.

Meanwhile, Sarah Walsh, who has been out with a hamstring injury since the early weeks of the season and has yet to play with the Athletica since being acquired in a trade with Sky Blue, played for about 60 minutes in a scrimmage against a boys team on Wednesday and said afterward she was good to go this weekend. Coach Jorge Barcellos said she would likely be used as a second half sub, going 30 or 40 minutes.

Defender Sara Larsson wasn’t called in by Sweden for their friendly this week, so she’ll be on hand for the Washington game. Amanda Cinalli is still bothered by the shoulder she hurt against LA but it looks as if she’ll be able to go.

Daniela has very briefly been back on the field, but Barcellos said she had more swelling in her knee so they’ve scaled back her work. It may be a race against the clock for her to be ready for the playoffs, but it’s still possible it will happen.

Lots of good news, but a little bad news about Daniela. Time is starting to run short. Let’s hope for the best.

It is unfortunate the development with Daniela, but remember when she went down with her injury we hadn’t won a game yet. Since she’s be gone, we’ve elevated our play and gotten up to second place in the league and defeated the almighty Sol at their place. I’m not saying she won’t make our team better, but the facts do speak for themselves. But great news regarding Aluko, Larson, Walsh and Cinalli. Time to get three more points before we come back home :-)
