Score on Hope Solo, other notes
When Athletica has scrimmaged against boys teams this year, I’m told one of the things the boys like most is to be able to say they scored on Hope Solo. Now, you have that chance. On this very website, we now have the Hope Solo Shootout, where you have a minute to see how many goals you can score on the U.S. national team keeper.
After a slow start — did I mention my biggest soccer successes were in goal? — I got the hang of it and started scoring some goals, but missing is all right because you get to hear Hope talk smack. (”Did you hit that with your purse?” she said to me at one point.) And I’m told you’ll do better with a mouse than with a touch pad. But anyway, give it a try.
In other news, Sheree Gray ended up not having to spend the night at the hospital yesterday, so she doesn’t have a bad concussion, just a concussion. (Definition of “not a bad concussion” is, of course, a concussion that belongs to someone else.
On the virtue of last night’s two-goal game, Christie Welsh has moved into a tie for second in scoring for Athletica. Daniela, Lori Chalupny and Amanda Cinalli also have scored two.
Last night was the first game all season that Angie Woznuk didn’t play in. Tina Ellertson is the only player to have been in every Athletica game and she will also finish with the most minutes played this season. Woznuk isn’t on the travel roster for Sunday. And Daniela isn’t either.
In other stat news, it’s no surprise Chalupny leads the team in fouls suffered, but Kendall Fletcher is second. (With substantially fewer fouls.) Who’s committed the most fouls? Melissa Tancredi.

Better news about Gray. Thoughts and prayers for a speedy full recovery. That was not a pleasant sight last evening. What was pleasant was Tancredi’s comment to Coach J of “I’m just getting the ball!” Those down low got a belly laugh from that one! If you have never experienced Coach J’s exuberance for the game and especially for his players up close and personal; spend the extra money for section 3/4 down low. Note: Solo told me my purse did not match my boots!
