Sweden wins, England loses at Euros

The Athletica’s two players at the Women’s European Championships had mixed results on Tuesday. Forward Eniola Aluko started, had what appeared to be a decent first half, and then was subbed out at the break before England, playing down a woman for much of the match, lost 2-1 to Italy. Aluko was the lone forward for England, who replaced her with Kelly Smith at the break. England went up on a PK in the 38th minute, then gave up goals in the 56th and 82nd.

Sweden, with defender Sara Larsson starting on the backline, beat Russia 3-0. Her name was never mentioned in the online play by play, so I can’t even feign knowledge on what she did.

Since two of the three third-place teams will advance, England needs to beat Russia in its next match on Friday.

It would be nice if we could see ANY of the Euro 2009 games on TV but I guess we can’t can we?

Eurosport is carrying the games in Europe. I haven’t searched for an online avenue for them.
