The online site for WPS postseason award voting was down much of yesterday with some glitch, so voting has been extended through Monday. (You can find the link here.) In what may speak to the fan base in St. Louis, Athletica players lead in the three categories open to fan voting. (Coach of the year isn’t voted on by fans.) Fan voting makes up just one quarter of the final results — general managers/coaches, media (hey, that’s me!), and players make up the rest.

In fan voting for MVP, Hope Solo has a decent lead over Marta, 41 percent to 23 percent as I write this on Friday morning. There doesn’t seem to be a case of splitting St. Louis votes: Lori Chalupny and Eniola Aluko have 4 and 2 percent respectively. Sonia Bompastor of Washington is the only person with significant votes, 17 percent.

It’s tighter for defender of the year, where Tina Ellertson has 34 percent to Christie Rampone’s 29 percent. Amy LePeilbet of Boston is third.

And for goalie of the year, it’s not close. Hope Solo has 58 percent. Karina LeBlanco of LA is second with 22.

Solo is a very good bet to win goalie of the year, since she’ll likely take the player vote and the coach vote. I think Marta will win the MVP voting on the other three ballots. She was first among coaches and players and second in media (to LePeilbet) in All-Star voting. Defender of the year is tougher call, but LePeilbet should take the players and coaches vote as she did in All-Star voting.
