WPS expansion draft at noon

The WPS expansion draft begins at noon today (or so the league website says). There is no live coverage of it. The league will post the results two hours after its conclusion, so the teams involved will have time to contact the players who are chosen and let them know before the news goes public. I wouldn’t think the draft would take that long. Assuming they’ve had the protected lists for sometime, they should be able to go through the first round pretty quickly. The second round, after some names come off the list, could take a little longer. But I would think by mid-afternoon, we’ll know.

As poster KC points out in a comment on the previous thread, league columnist Dan Lauletta reports that multiple teams have protected two goalies. Would the Athletica have also protected Jillian Loyden? I think not, since it would leave players who play much more of the schedule exposed and there are expected to be fewer national team conflicts next year. The coach of Atlanta said they’d be focusing on domestic players. Does that give you a greater opportunity to leave an international unprotected?

I’ll try to post the results as soon as I know them.
