Riding the rails

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The American Association of Railroaders has scheduled a mystery train trip on April 13 as therapy for passengers with “triskaidekaphobia,” the fear of things with the number 13. The association has another trip planned to Milwaukee April 30 for a Cardinals baseball game.

The one-day mystery excursion will depart from the St. Louis Amtrak station at 4:15 p.m., with a stop in Kirkwood to pick up additional passengers. Two tunnels will be traversed in each direction on the 100-mile ride, which features a full-course dinner served at 6:30 p.m. at the final destination. Dress is casual or sporty for the trip.

The tour is scheduled to return to Kirkwood at 9:30 p.m. and St. Louis an hour later. The $75 fare includes transportation and dinner.

On April 30-May 1, the association is sponsoring a train ride to Chicago, where a second train will take the group to Milwaukee for reserved seats at Miller Park for the evening game between the Brewers and Cardinals.

After an overnight stay in downtown Milwaukee, a morning train will take the group back to Chicago for a free afternoon before embarking on an evening train to St. Louis.

The two-day baseball trip will begin at 4:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, at the St. Louis Amtrak station, with stops in Illinois to pick up additional passengers. It is scheduled to return to St. Louis at 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

The fare of $328 a person, based on double occupancy, includes train travel, the baseball game and lodging. A single private room is $379.
