Trip tips for Memorial Day weekend
Memorial Day’s right around the corner, so if you’re looking for a last-minute getaway, I highly recommend the Lowertown Art & Music Festival in Paducah, Ky.
It’s a quick 3-hour drive (interstates all the way) from STL to Paducah. There are plenty of hotels along I-24, some unique accommodations downtown, barbecue (Starnes and many more. The best barbecue going is at Leigh’s Barbecue, a mint-green cinderblock building, in West Paducah, fondly referred to by the locals as Future City. Trust me on this. It’s worth the trip), and the festival will be full of cool art, jewelry, food, stuff for the kids to do and a bandstand in the middle of historic Lowertown, a hip little artists colony. Yes, this really is in Paducah.
The festival runs Friday through Sunday.
