Canoe poling is going on right now at on the Meramec River at Route 66 State Park (formerly Times Beach). The American Canoe Association Sanctioned Canoe Poling National Championship Races (take a breath) will be going on now through Saturday.
There will be canoe poling workshops and river trips before the races.
There are two types of races:
Wildwater - A straight upstream and downstream run
Slalom - This race includes turns and backward maneuvers dictated by buoys
