Barbecue cook-off, Aug. 1-2, in Lake of the Ozarks

I know this is a little last minute, but if you’re headed to the Lake of the Ozarks, this is the weekend for the 16th annual Laurie Hillbilly Bar-B-Q Cook-Off. It’s going on today and Saturday at the Laurie Fairgrounds off Highway 5.
Sauce will be slathered on chicken, pork ribs, beef brisket, pork shoulder and Boston butt. There’s also an “open” category that includes “anything prepared on-site.” Wonder what that could include?
There’s a dance tonight from 7 to 11 p.m., with barbecue samples, raffles, games for the kids and a beer garden for the adults.
The barbecue winner will earn an invite to the world’s largest barbecue contest in Kansas City. The winner may also be selected for the annual Jack Daniels cookoff in Tennessee.
