Delta Queen’s free tribute, Oct. 28
Majestic America Line will pay tribute to the historic Delta Queen paddlewheeler with several activities from noon to 1 p.m. next Tuesday along the Cape Girardeau riverfront.
Efforts are continuing in Congress to extend the exemption allowing the Delta Queen to continue to operate cruise voyages past this month. But without Congressional action, the Queen will be forced to end overnight cruises.
The free event in Cape Girardeau could be the last opportunity to experience firsthand this piece of Americana.
The events include an opening song on the Delta Queen’s steam-powered calliope, an overview of the boat’s history and the efforts to get the exemption, a performance by the Delta Queen Band and singers and the Queen’s departure with a special calliope concert.
