Jackman to stay — what’s next?
Blues president John Davidson was able to strike a deal with pending free agent Barret Jackman. So the rugged defenseman moved off the trade block Monday night, perhaps putting another of the veteran defensemen (Jay McKee? Bryce Salvador? Christian Backman?) in play.
For the moment, JD just wanted to focus on Jackman’s contract extension. “Barret has been a staple on the blue line for the Blues since his rookie season,” Davidson in a statement. “He logs plenty of minutes per game and will continue to be a key part of our team as we move forward.”
The Blues were offering about $2.8 million per season and Jackman was looking for at least $3.5 million. The four-year deal apparently put him in that range.
“I have said all along that I wanted to remain in St. Louis,” Jackman said in a news release. “The Blues drafted me, I met my wife here and I want to raise a family here. I’m excited about the direction of this franchise and love playing in front of Blues fans.”

Jackman was really good…
when Pronger was his partner…
Good move…
Jackman is really good — even when Backman is his partner. Trade Backman now for a bag of pucks.
Hopefully they can free up the McKee money and get something for Salvador. Have to get these young D-men some Ice. Obviously the BLUE talent evaluators see more in Brewer than the average fan so lets hope they are right. FREE UP MONEY and take a run at HOSSA in July then maybe we can get on track for a playoff spot and eventually a CUP.
There was nobody available as good as Jackman on “D” and no scorers either…Great move to keep him!
don’t really understand the Salvador except as a money dump. Enforcers aren’t really that hard to find.
Jack…
Good up the good work….
