Kevin……Caron’s “deal” for Garth Butcher was a terrible move. It took four roster players for him and D. Quin. Could have used Ronning in that Chicago series that year. ROn Caron was overrated, making trades for the sake of making them. Caron was a fantastic ambassador for a hockey team with rotating ownership in a middle Market. Great for sound bites and good quips, but as a GM, he meddled too much…..JUST TOO MAKE YOU BUNCH OF FANS, ADDICTED TO THE TRADE DEADLINE HAPPY!!!!!! WHAT GOOD DID THE PETR NEDVED JUNK BRING? WHAT RETURN DID THE SHANAHAN DEAL BRING BESIDES PRONGER? BLUES NEVER GOT PAST THE OLD NORRIS DIVISION FINAL DURING CARON”S RUN.

The Backman trade was a flat out steal. The only thing that could have been better is if Rucinsky was included in the deal. We free up 3.5 mil, lose a lazy player, and get something in return. I would have accepted a bag of pucks.

Jackman is worth the dough we signed him for. As long as he keeps his edge, theres nothing to complain about with his game.

Salvador was not going to get us much. There’s no stupid team out desperate for a defensive defensement to give up much more than what we got. We got a guy in return that has heart, which is something this team is lacking. The best part of all this? we can still sign Salvador this summer. What’s not to like?

This management team made shrewd, logical moves. No repeat of 1991 here.

I like Salvador - but why would you want to resign him after inking Jackman? You would then have almost the same defense that has missed the playoff going on two/three years.

We need a offensive D man that can move/shoot the puck on the blueline (besides EJ).

I know we also need a goal scoring forward - but I am guessing they may be thinking the young guys coming in will help in that area.

The Blues do need to get better but they gave up 2 starters ( who weren’t playing all that well) but only got a 4th line banger and a 4th round pick. That doesn’t look like they were going for a playoff spot to me. Maybe they were just dumping salary but if they don’t get a backup for Manny, they are going to wear him out and then we’re toast.

This is getting old, the Blues for years have needed the same things front line scoring and talent on the blue line. It takes one of two things, get rid of all your high price talent (with this team the reality being real high prices but only rumored talent), and start building thru the the draft and everyone including the fans just be patient. The other route at the trade deadline or this off season would be to make a bold moves to sign a proven elite scorer(s) still in his prime and make the long term investment. The Blues don’t have to be like the Rams, signing free agents to huge contracts who are already on the downside of their careers. What really killed me was everyone talking about the great surplus of defensemen this organization had. The sad reality has always been we’ve had more than enough warm bodies, or should we say “stiffs”, but very little talent. To their credit it looks like they play hard, but AM is left with only undertalented hockey players. The trade deadline only confirmed the Blues had no talent blueliners. If eveyone would be honest I think we all could agree the only two solid D-Men the Blues had before the trade deadline were Salvador and E. Johnson. Of course we found out how much value Bryce really had, and Backman returned what he was worth. We now go on with Jackman who at least has a great attitude, but on most any NHL teams is a 5th or 6th defenseman and in the “new NHL” has very minimal skills, and should not be on anyone’s powerplay. The team captain Brewer does not have the skill of a top defensemen, as he is out played night after night by faster and more skilled players. The worst of the lot is Jay McKee just get him out of the lineup, not too mention his lofty pay, he is a total embarassment everytime he steps onto the ice. Play as many young defensemen as you can and let’s find out what we have for the future. Please sit Brewer and Mckee, and reduce Jackman’s offensive role. If we are real hockey fans we will accept not making the playoffs now and stil fill up the building to watch young talent develope into a future conteder. That’s it, off the saop box. I am a hockey fan and will still enjoy watching the Non-Blues playoffs looking forward to the future.

The Blues traded their best defenseman recently and it’s been downhill ever since!! It’s no wonder they’ve lost the majority of their games since they traded Bryce Salvador. They should have shipped that overrated-overpaid player Barrett Jackman instead. Bottom line, this team is just not very good and extremely weak on defense. They give up way too many scoring opportunities to their opponents because they can’t clear the puck!!

Hey, can we trade Barrett Jackman to get Pronger back?
