Mayers to have leadership role in Toronto
It appears the Leafs will move Mats Sundin to Montreal, thus ending an era in franchise history. GM-for-now Cliff Fletcher has been asked to start a rebuilding project that the next general manager will complete.
As the team blends more kids into its mix, somebody will have to take charge of the room. Mayers will be one of the candidates for that. Fletcher knows him through his Team Canada campaigns, as he just noted in an interview with the NHL Network.
This will be a great opportunity Jamal, who returns to his hometown. Hockey Guy is happy for Mayers, who was always a class act as a Blue.
