Boyes To Men: The Blues Find Ways To Win Again
Don’t write the Blues off just yet.
Improbably, they won their second consecutive game with a makeshift lineup. Goaltender Chris Mason throttled the Wild on the road, illustrating why the Note brought him up from Nashville at considerable cost.
Brad Boyes scored his ninth and 10th goal of the season, finding his touch at just the right time. He and Lee Stempniak need to crank it up with forwards Andy McDonald, Paul Kariya, T.J. Oshie and Patrick Berglund sidelined simultaneously.
The victories bumped the Blues back to .500 at 8-8-2. That’s not great, but it’s not bad under the circumstances. The Blues are just three points out of the No. 8 slot in the overall Western Conference standings.
Elsewhere in the conference, the struggling Stars lost captain Brenden Morrow to a season-ending knee injury. The Canucks lost one of the league’s MVPs, Roberto Luongo, to an unfortunate-looking groin muscle Saturday.
The Ducks lost defenseman Francois Beauchemin for the season, leaving them a bit short on the blue line. So other teams have issues, too.
AROUND THE RINKS: Believe it or not, the San Jose Sharks are taking a look at yesteryear agitator Claude Lemieux, whose comeback has included a stopover in China’s pro league. If Lemieux can show something in the NHL, the Sharks could consider him for the stretch run. This is enough to make players across the league groan . . . Weird stat of the week: The highly skilled Senators are just 7-20 in shootouts. How can that happen? In 100 shootout attempts, they have converted just 26 times . . . The Ottawa Sun suggests that Brendan Shanahan won’t play at all this season if he can’t land a suitable deal with an East Coast team . . . As defensive injuries mount in the NHL, the Flames may find taker for pricey defenseman Adrian Aucoin . . . If the Blues want Radek Dvorak back, the Panthers would be more than willing to send him north . . . The Blackhawks have mixed feelings about Nikolai Khabibulin. He is clearly their best goaltender, but they would like to clear cap room to add offensive help. The team is currently spending well over $10 million per season on The Bulin Wall and free-agent addition Crisobal Huet.

Good for Boyes, glad to hear he’s rolling again. Wideman is progressing nicely but Boyes still got a raw deal out of town here in Boston.
If Lemieux does come back, it should only be for one game and he should have to play against Cam Neely (also only back for the one game).
I’m suprised the Habs didn’t make a run for this weasels services.
