Fans Go Crazy, Players Celebrate, Murray Mists Up
Quite a scene at Scottrade Center, eh?
You would have thought the team won the Stanley Cup the way they carried on. And why? This team stormed from last place in the Western Conference into the playoffs with a three-month sprint.
Murray couldn’t put the achievement in context. It was too soon for that. And it wouldn’t rank it against his other career highlights.
But he would admit that the clinch (and the crowd reaction to it) made him very emotional.
“God it feels good,” Murray said. “I feel good for these guys, obviously, and 19 1/2 thousand of their good friends right now. It’s pretty special.
“It just shows you that if you stick with it. and I know I sounded like a broken record to a long of you since the beginning of the year, when I said we were working our tails off . . .
“When I look back at it, I’ll probably realize how difficult it was to do it. I think we tried to be as good as we could be in each game we played and the guys were echoing the same sentiments. It’s a hard-working group of guys. They work hard in practice.
“I can list on one hand the number of times I was disappointed in the effort of our team.
“We had more talent than people gave us credit for. Certain people at the start of the year didn’t give us any credit.”
When did he realize that his team had it Friday night?
“When I started getting chills with about 40 seconds to go and you kind of choke up a little bit and you realize . . . the support was there all night . . . I had to get off the bench real quick after the game, I’ll tell you that.
“How can you not be emotional about something like that?”

Congrats to Coach Murray and the Blues organization. In my eyes, Coach Murray is Coach of the Year.
From all your fans back home, way to go Andy. The rest of the hockey world is justing starting to realize what Souris has known all along.
I am choking up just thinking about the crowd being the number 1 star. Making the playoffs this year is gravy. Big step forward. We could do well, we’ve been playing a playoff style for three months now.
You could tell the crowd was loud even on TV. What an atmosphere! Great Job Coach!
