Luongo Robs Backes

The Blues had a glorious chance to take a 1-0 lead on a power play, but Roberto Luongo robbed David Backes with an amazing left skate save on an attempted rebound conversion.

After running their power play to perfection, the Blues felt they had the go-ahead tally . . . but Luongo would have none of it. The man is an acrobat.

Backes took a tripping penalty after that remarkable Luongo save — then the Canucks came back with big-time pressure on their own power play.

Old friend Pavol Demitra had an empty net, but he redirected the puck wide of it. Vancouver winger Alex Burrows had a empty net, but he used his glove to put the puck in instead of his stick.
