Big Moves About To Happen?
The sense of anticipation is quite high at the NHL Draft, for many reasons.
Senators star Dany Heatley is up for bidding. The dysfunctional Tampa Bay Lightning may or may not move cornerstone center Vincent Lecavalier. Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke is trying to make big splashes on several levels.
The Blues are positioned to make a major move, too, as KFNS hockey guru Andy Strickland notes. This team seems adamant about trading Hockey Guy favorite David Perron.
Here is the latest scuttlebutt from the World Wide Web:
- Florida is still trying to get something for the rights to defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, who has multiple suitors lined up. TSN’s Darren Dreger reports that teams are willing to spend a third-round pick just for the exclusive negotiating rights.
- Because the Bruins are willing to deal young forward Phil Kessel, that team can’t be ruled out of the Heatley sweepstakes.
- If the Leafs can’t trade up from No. 7 into the top three, Burke may move that pick for veteran help.
- The Kings are willing to move young defenseman Jack Johnson, who consistently has overvalued his worth. That team is looking to add veteran Mattias Ohlund for some leadership on the blue line.
- The Wild is looking at many possibilities, including Kessel and Tomas Kaberle of the Leafs.
- Up in Chicago, my guy Steve Rosenbloom trumpets the concept of Chris Chelios returning to the Blackhawks to finish his career. I bet Joel Quenneville would like that very much.
- With the Avalanche forced to start over, several teams are sniffing around to see if power forward Ryan Smyth will be available by trade.
- Is Ryan Clowe a potential breakout power forward? San Jose may not want to pay him as such, so teams are inquiring.
- Are the Islanders obligated to take John Tavares first overall? The kid can score, but the kid also has an attitude. Hmmm . . .

don’t trade David Perron
The next time Andy Strickland is right will also be the first time Andy Strickland is right about anything concerning the Blues.
After what Perron showed us in the post-season last year, and the Blues are thinking of trading him? Simply insane. The timing of this is not good, I want to see Perron next year and see how he starts the year off first before entertaining thoughts of a trade. After what he showed in the playoffs last year, the Blues would be foolish to cash in now.
PLEASE, do not trade David Perron.
Look at the bright side, at least there is a st louis team trying to improve.
Perron was a complete maniac in the playoffs, the Blues 2nd best player behind AMac. No way I let him go unless the offer is absolutely overwhelming. I have 100% confidence in JD and crew, but please fellas, think twice about letting this guy walk out the door.
If they trade Perron, it will show Andy Murray is running the front office and NOT J.D.
Perron, along with Mason, was the best player in the playoffs for the Blues.
talks are perron for pronger! no way i make that deal!
JD. Love what you have done so far. Just dont get nostalgic now. Trade a 21 year old for a 36 year old? Trade a Fan favorite? DONT DO IT! Please stick to the rebuild. You do realize its the kids that brought the fans back. As season ticket holders, we are the people you should be trying to please. The past is done, as Pronger will be in a few years. Lets see what Perron’s ceiling is and what ALL of these wonderfully talented kids you drafted can do for us. Those who try to acquire under the pressure of a deadline usually get screwed. Once Perron is gone and you see and how much the true fan base (those of us who kept our season tickets through 05-06) is pissed off you cant undo that easily. Read the posts for the past year. NOBODY wants to see Perron go. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT DO IT.
Perron did play well in the playoffs, which helped raise his stock with me because I thought he sometimes floated too much during the regular season. It didn’t appear he was working hard all the time. That said, out of all our young guys I think he is the one easiest to part with.
