NHL Rumor-O-Rama

As the clock winds down toward the NHL Draft, the rumor mill whirls furiously:

  • HockeyBuzz.com insists the Blues are still bidding for disgruntled Flames winger Dany Heatley, along with the Rangers, but suggests Calgary is making a big move. Hockey Guy expressed his reservations about Heatley elsewhere on STLToday.
  • Chris Pronger’s status in Anaheim is up in the air. Fellow defenseman Scott Niedermayer could clarify that with a decision on his future, which should come by Friday. So Tweets TSN commentator Darren Dreger.
  • USA Today’s mock draft, offered up by Red Line Report editor Kyle Woodlief, has the Blues taking 6-foot-3, 230-pound power forward Zach Budish of Edina (Minn.) High School. Woodlief wrote: “He’s been injured all season, but St. Loo’s Minnesota scout has known this kid for years, and he might have been a top 10 pick if not for the injury. Plus, the Blues could use some size up front so they swing for the fences on a potential homerun pick.”
  • Vincent Lecavalier’s future in Tampa depends on the ongoing power struggle between co-owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie. Koules wants to deal Vinny and slash payroll while Barrie wants to rebuild around the cornerstone center. Tuesday’s meeting with commissioner Gary Bettman apparently didn’t change the hierarchy, although it appears Barrie did gain veto power over major deals.
  • If Barrie gets his way – and Lecavalier stays put — the Lightning would love to get defenseman Victor Hedman instead of center John Tavares with the second overall pick. Tampa Bay’s most pressing need is on the blue line.
  • If Koules gets his, the new (but pending) Canadiens ownership group will want GM Bob Gainey to make a big play for Lecavalier.
  • With Brent Sutter taking over as Flames coach, defenseman Dion Phaneuf may stick around after all. His play regressed dramatically under Mike Keenan last season.
  • The Sedin Twins are not a lock to return to Vancouver. So former Blue Pavol Demitra is trying to woo his buddy Marian Gaborik to the Canucks. British Columbia is a great place to reside on the disabled list, no?

You should really get your facts straight before you post sports news.
St. Louis probably wont be getting Dany Heatley since it’s kind of hard to get him when he doesnt play for Calgary, there talking to the wrong team.
Ottawa Senators is where you want to be at. Would you like the number and directions how to get to the arena. I know it turn by turn. :)

This is pathetic.

Calgary? The Hockey Guy thinks that one of the best goal scorers of the last decade who has never played for Calgary plays for Calgary?

I was thinking the same thing. Here’s the guy that raids the people of the hockey world’s knowledge and doesn’t know who Heatly is or where he plays. He might not even know he killed another man in a DUI incident.

I read all of this from other sources. Last I checked when getting information from else where it is correct to citate the source and give credit where credit is due. Otherwise you might get caught for plagerism which aparently still allows you a dimploma and the job of vice-president of America.

Come on guys, unless Gordo doesn’t know that the team in Calgary is nicknamed the Flames, it was a simple brain-slip. He did conclude the sentence with “but suggests Calgary is making a big move.”

I’d love to see Heatley as a Bluenote, but think it’s unlikely.

Please don’t post anything written by Eklund on Hockeybuzz.com. That guy is a fraud. I would hope the real media would be able to spot this, but sadly not. Another example of poor journalism by Jeff Gordon.

Good job Chris….you can harshly critique other people’s work, but can’t spell while doing it. Top notch. Sure Gordo made an error with the Flames thing, but has anyone noticed the number of articles/chats/tipsheet he puts out? I’m sure he’s probably typing them up at 100 mph and yeah mistakes are gonna happen. It did for you.

Is “citate” a made up word like “bromance”? I don’t know what citate means.

At any rate, I say the team should stand pat with the players they have and make a move in-season as needed. Kariya comes back and EJ returns on the blue line. I wouldn’t settle for a great player with baggage in this locker room with younger players.

Wait for a better fit on the team.

I am of the belief that the Blues are in desperate need of a bonafide sniper type goal scorer. That being said, this team is full of a bunch of class guys and I would hate to see the locker room infected by a guy who seems to be a malcontent. I say find someone else to add some offense even if it means waiting until after the season starts.

Some of you all need to remember the difference between a BLOG and a news article. Blogs are just supposed to be for quick view points and opinions. They are not edited or reviewed. Sure Gordo messes up on some of his posts, but if you actually read his stuff you will see he does know what he be talking about. If you read is other blogs about this, of course he knows Heater is from the Sens! And at least we have TWO journalists here that give a rats arsse enough to post about Hockey!

as far as Heatley goes, if the Blues can grab him without giving up to much(i.e. any current Blue starter outside of McKee or Brewer), I would like to see him in the Blues lineup. But I have a feeling LA, CGY or SJ is where he winds up at.

For the draft, I am hoping for one of the big center prospects, although drafting Ferraro sounds interesting as the kid can score!

He doesn’t say he plays for calgary….

This says Calgary is also trying to trade for Heatley!
