NHL Rumor-O-Rama, Cont.
As you know, Hockey Guy isn’t advocating a Dany Heatley trade for the Blues. An elite scorer would be great to have, of course, but this no time to disrupt the team’s chemistry or compromise its work ethic.
Fortunately, HockeyBuzz.com reports, the Rangers are making a big play for Heatley. If New York could offload Chris Drury’s salary in that swap, it would be a great move for the Blue Shirts.
Here is some other stuff to watch:
- With Len Barrie failing to seize control of the Lightning front office, Montreal fans are eagerly awaiting Vincent Lecavalier’s arrival from Tampa. The Canadiens have lots of cap room, so absorbing Vinny’s $85 million contract extension would be no problem.
- Tampa need big-time help on the blue line, but they may not get that in a Lecavalier deal. Montreal purged its roster to create a lot of cap space. But Oren Koules, who kept control of the ownership group, insists there will be no fire sale.
- Jay Bouwmeester seemed destined for one of the teams in Western Canada, but the Flyers, ever on the prowl for size, would be willing to create salary cap space for him.
- Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke continues his quest to move toward the top of the draft, where there is real value. After the first three picks in this draft, the first round is a real crap shoot.
- The Toronto Globe and Mail reports that the Maple Leafs, with money to spend, could add Rangers defenseman Wade Redden and Bruins forward Peter Schaefer sooner than later. That would help the Rangers and Bruins create cap space.
- TSN commentator Pierre McGuire expects the Blues to draft Jacob Josefson with the 17th overall pick. Why? “Blues scout Jarmo Kekalainen knows Swedish talent as well as anybody,” he said.
- Old friends Dave Lowry and Jamie “Noodles” McLennan have joined Brent Sutter’s staff in Calgary. (It’s amazing how many former Blues have advanced into the coaching ranks after their careers.) As noted earlier, this group seems willing to give Dion Phaneuf a shot at redemption during the season ahead.

Brewer/McKee to NY for Redden. NY is stupid enough to take McKee’s salary and stupid enough to take a risk on a player with a serious injury. Redden may not have had a great season, but he certainly would at least be as valuable as Brewer or McKee.
People need to stop with this harsh criticism of Gordo. All of this speculating is meant not too really inform, but to have a good time. This is simply a blog that looks at different prominent websites and reports of rumors circulating around so that we have something, anything to talk about with the blues. This is an excruciating time for us blues fans and I appreciate these blogs so that i can have some fun dreaming up what might be with my blues, while at the same time, it keeps it in a somewhat realistic perspective. If you agree or disagree, post your comments. This is fun. There is no need to be mean spirited or condescending. Thanks for these posts Gordo, I appreciate them.
