Good Blues News: Conklin Comes Aboard
This is a nice move by the Note. He’s got a two-year deal and he WILL push Chris Mason for work.
He has played on winning teams and done quite well. Conklin outplayed Chris Osgood last season in Detroit, but Ozzie finished well enough to get the playoff nod.
Of the available goaltenders, he ranked in the top two or three. Craig Anderson, another high-end free agent, signed with Colorado.
Blues fans should be excited by this move.
Elsewhere in the NHL . . .
Marian Hossa got a 12-year, $62 million deal in Chicago. This news is not as good for Blues fans. Ouch.
Hossa will offer a nice upgrade over Martin Havlat, who had a big 2008-09 season after overcoming a spate of injuries. Havlat might head to LA now.
After the Lightning make a big play on Mattias Ohlund, landing him with a seven-year deal, the Thrashers moved to take Pavel Kubina (and his contract) off the hands of the Maple Leafs.
WIth Rick Dudley helping Don Waddell make the personnel calls, the Thrashers are interested in Nik Antropov - most recently a Ranger.
Toronto landed Rangers tough guy Colton Orr with a four-year, $4 million deal. Also, GM Brian Burke is reportedly chasing free agent Swedish goaltender Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson.
Also, he was trying to lock up free agent defenseman MIke Komisarek.

Another former WING,OMG!!!Just kidding…I like this signing and hope we can pick up another impact scorer as well.GO BLUENOTE!
I’m sorry but Clemmenson was suppose to be high on the Blues list from the very beginning and Gerber has more NHL experience plus he’s posted decent save percentages with mediocre teams during his career - Conklin not so much. And these weren’t the only 2 goalies I mentioned either, so get your facts straight.
Well, let’s see…Biron wants $5 million and doesn’t want to be a backup, Brian Boucher has done *what*, exactly, lately? I don’t think Roloson wants to be a backup either and sure as hockey sticks isn’t signing for under $2 million and is also going to be 40 years old, and Scott Clemmensen and his 68 games of NHL experience whom I vividly recally seeing with the Toronto Marlies in 2008 have done *what*, exactly, better than Ty Conklin? It’s nice that he was interested in St. Louis. Maybe JD didn’t want to give him the extra year Florida did. (Maybe Florida won’t want him by year three.) And Gerber? As part of a backup/tandem? Ask Ottawa how well that’s worked out. (And Toronto didn’t even want him back.)
I wouldn’t hold your breath thinking you could have done much better.
Gerber? If he was considered so high on your list, why wasn’t he re-signed by his own team?Maybe stats aren’t the only thing our braintrust are looking at.This is a young team and I’m fairly sure if Clemmenson or Gerber were better options the contract would have been offered..
Hey guys, I’m not saying Gerber’s the one, he was just an example I threw out there. Actually Boucher had a nice year last year, I cheated and looked it up - 12 wins 6 losses .917 Save Pct and 2.18 GA —- not bad. Good comeback about Biron and Gerber though, so hats off to ya…….the Islanders just signed Roloson to be their backup, and even though he’s 40, he still gets good reviews………….Hey, I hope Conklin works out, I really do, but he couldn’t win the job outright from Osgood this year and Osgood struggled mightily most of the regular season. We’ll see it how it goes, no hard feelings.
