Cards Lose, Fans Return From Concourse

A huge chunk of the Scottrade Center crowd retreated to the concourse to watch the end of the Cards-Dodgers game on TVs under the stands.

The Cards had Game 2 of the National League Division Series in hand . . . and then Matt Holliday allowed the would-be final out of the game to carom off his stomach onto the ground.

That misplayed fly ball opened the door for the Dodgers and poor Ryan Franklin couldn’t slam it. LA rallied to win and put the Cards in a 2-0 hole in this best-of-five series.

This loss will live in infamy. That wasn’t quite Bill Buckneresque in left field, but it ranks as one of the franchise’s all-time worst postseason gaffes.

So the baseball is all but over in St. Louis. Blues fans returned to the seat and focused on their hockey team’s bid to come back from a 2-1 second-period deficit.

Unacceptable. Matt Holliday post season makes me think twice about backing up the Brinks truck to his door.
