Look At This: Blues Break Out At Home!
Wow. For the first time at home this season, the Blues finally cranked up their offense. They blitzed the Canucks with four quick goals, two by David Perron, and rolled on.
Maybe the boys will finally settle down and build their first winning streak of the season. They absolutely, positive HAVE to take advantage of this homestand and generate some momentum.
Here are some thoughts on the game:
- Andy McDonald’s goal 18 seconds into the game was Brett Hull-like. He cruised through the slot and snapped Brad Boyes’ drop pass past Canucks goaltender Andrew Raycroft.
- Rugged Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa used the end boards to good advantage while handling B.J. Crombeen in their scuffle 34 seconds into the game.
- The Blues’ second goal was a nice redirection. Boyes hammered the puck on goal from the atop the left circle and Perron was positioned at the doorstep to steer it home.
- Erik Johnson swooped in from the blue line to make it 3-0, banking a shot off a Canucks defenseman with David Backes parked at the back post. (The hard-luck Backes originally got credit for the goal, but then had it taken away.)
- For the fourth Blues goal of the first period, Perron buried a goal-scorer’s shot, snapping a shot over Raycroft’s glove from the right circle. The goaltender shouldn’t have exposed the short side, but that was still a nice shot.
- Boyes finally scored one of his trademark one-time goals from the left circle, converting McDonald’s deft power-play pass to give the Blues a 5-0 lead in the second period.
- Tough guy Cam Janssen delivered a crowd-pleasing fight, pummeling Tanner (Unbreakable) Glass during a marathon second-period bout.
- Brad Winchester’s scratch was hardly a shock, given his inability to duplicate last season’s productivity. With defensemen Carlo Colaiacovo and Alex Pietrangelo both scratched, sacrificed some puck-moving ability to get steadier defensive zone play.
- The Blues were lucky to dodge both Daniel Sedin, who should be ready to play Thursday. Roberto Luongo didn’t start in goal, but he replaced Raycroft after one period in his first appearance since suffering a rib injury.
Luongo settled the Blues down with some steady work in goal, but not before the game out out of hand.

well played boys!
Hey Gordo… Perron had 3 goals, which is why you saw all those hats flying on the ice.
Hey Think… this is a blog written at 8:10pm…during the game. Discussed is the the four goal blitz - of which 2 were scored by Perron.
I heart Andy Mac.
Hey Think…you dumb@$$, gordo was referring to the first four goals which Perron had two of!! Learn how to read a sentence in context you idiot. As for the game…was fun to watch, we will see how long it last until Andy decides to screw it up with his over coaching and endless meetings. If the previous two games didn’t explain to most hockey enthusiast his ability to be out coached and out strategized, especially in OT, I don’t know how else to explain it to you. I thought Kariya played a spirited game, as for Keith, he looks OLD. He needs to be a healthy scratch more often than not, I would have taken Winchester trying to find his game over Keith trying to check someone, only to bounce off like a rubberball. If he can’t play in front of the net he’s lost his use to us.
My3sons, you should really try out for the coaching spot that will most undoubtedly open up after the owners start reading your posts. Your sharp criticisms and no-fear virtual world fighting spirit would certainly fire up the boys, not to mention the value of your extensive knowledge gained from watching televised games. And plus, wouldn’t it be great to get paid for what you’re doing free-of-charge now?
This is going to be a huge boost of motivation the Blues need. Yes Sir!
