Welcome to Hook and Bullet
I started this blog to create a centralized source for outdoors news in Missouri and Illinois. Whether that news is about regulations, wildlife population studies, or interesting tactics, I intend for it to be timely and useful in planning your trips.
While I may occasionally share my own adventures, I think there are too many of those blogs already. Besides, many of you probably know more about hunting and fishing than I do and you probably have more interesting adventures.
I grew up in Iowa and fished for walleye and pike in South Dakota, where my family had a place on a lake. I was curious about hunting, but never gave it a try beyond a hunter education class in high school. I was in Boy Scouts, and wanted to be one of those hard-core obsessed outdoorsmen, but I’m not sure I did it right.
Since moving to St. Louis 10 years ago, I have honed my ability to be that obsessed outdoorsman. First it was fishing for smallmouth bass on Missouri’s beautiful streams. That lead to fly-fishing, upland hunting, waterfowl hunting, deer hunting, lots of cool gadgets and gear, and a great Springer Spaniel, Cowboy, who is as much a spoiled child as he is a hunting buddy. This year I’ve started archery – more gadgets, more gear, and more time in the woods. My wife tolerates it by finding humor in my “eccentric ways.”
I chose the name “Hook and Bullet” because of its old-school nature. It’s not often people refer to outdoors publications with that phrase anymore.
I hope you enjoy what’s to come.

I hunt and fish primarily in Missouri and Illinois, two wonderful states with great outdoors opportunities. I like to pursue waterfowl, upland game, deer and small game, and I fish primarily for smallmouth bass and trout on the fly.
Great addition to the Post’s blogzone. I’ll be sending this link to friends and family in the hook and bullet crowd. Finally something more than ball sports from the Post.
