Say hola to the new Mexican restaurant in Kirkwood

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

amigosinside.jpgIt’s hard to miss Amigo’s Cantina in Kirkwood. Bright red, yellow, blue, orange andamigosoutside.jpg green shingles line the exterior wall. At the end of this colorful rainbow, you’ll find something better than a pot of gold — a good Mexican restaurant.

Saturday night was opening night, and the place was busy. I held out as long as I could, giving them an hour to work out the kinks. There were a few missteps with the service, but they were easy to overlook due to the reduced-price beer on opening night.

The menu is limited right now but hints at cuisine more creative than the standard fare. I tried Roberto’s Special Carnitas ($9.75), which were good, and my dining companion opted for the Stuffed Poblano Pepper ($9.75), which was outstanding. The latter was stuffed with chicken, raisins, walnuts and spices and topped with homemade goat cheese sauce.

amigosfood.jpgThe salsa is fresh, and the watering-hole ambiance is sure to attract the after-work crowd. Seating is limited so arrive early or risk being stuck at the bar with potent margaritas.

My wife, friends and I ate at Amigo’s and found the food to be outstanding and the service more than helpful and friendly. The staff made our visit enjoyable (7 people) and considering the place was busy we only waited about 15 minutes. The chips and salsa are really tasty and I believe made on site. The beef fajita’s are my favorite, Good flavor and delicious! Everyone in our party was happy we went to Amigo’s-we will definetly come back.

We ate at Amigo’s last night for the first time and loved it!! My husband had the TREVINO’S SPECIAL CARNITAS, which he absolutely loved and I had the Chicken Enchiladas Verde which were awesome! The atmosphere is great and the margaritas were some of the best I’ve ever had. We’re so excited to have a Mexican restaurant in Kirkwood and we plan to make it there often.
