Elizabeth Banks is someone who is recognizable but not wildly famous — yet.

Earlier this year, she appeared in “Definitely, Maybe” and you might remember her from “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” or one of the “Spider-Man” films.

She is on a cinematic tear now, starring as Laura Bush in today’s release of ‘W.’ Her performance is believable, though not especially memorable.

Our reviewer liked the film, but I didn’t care much for “W.,” which should stand for “whatever.” Oliver Stone’s parody comes off like a bad “Saturday Night Live” skit, and Stone’s descent from great films like “Platoon” and “Wall Street” continues. Josh Brolin is fantastic as President Bush, but Thandie Newton will have a tough time living down her laughable impersonation of Condoleezza Rice.

Banks also is starring in “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” which will be released Oct. 31. The film stars Seth Rogan and is directed by Kevin Smith. Banks plays Miri. I’ve seen the film and can assure you Banks’ character is a tad bit more liberal than Laura Bush.

Also look for Banks in “Role Models” Nov. 7 and “The Uninvited”  Jan. 30.
