Box office poll: Which film will rule this weekend?
This weekend, several big moviesĀ — ‘Doubt,’ ‘Gran Torino,’ and ‘The Reader’ — are opening in select markets, meaning little St. Louis will have to wait. But these are some of the better films being released this year so H-O-F carnies need to be careful today when plunking down their office bets.
Lots of factors in play. It’s the holiday season and ‘Four Christmases’ has ruled for two weeks. While we didn’t give ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ a great review, the force is strong for sci-fi films. And then there is Clint Eastwood in ‘Gran Torino.’ It’s never wise to bet against Clint.
I’m putting my chip on ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ because it’s new, appeals to the young movie-going crowd and has a wide opening.
