I really don’t know what to say about this appearance by Joaquin Phoenix. Just watch and vote below.

Who has been Letterman’s worst guest?

This was like classic Andy Kauffman at his best!

In regards to Phoenix, I guess this is what happens to good talent after spending some time with Gwenneth Paltrow.

What a shame that this wonderful actor has lost his mind???

I am not so sure the Joaquin Phoenix wasn’t planned or he was acting. At the very end he stands up and takes his shades off. If he was really high or pissed I think he would have just left, and not taken his shades off. Just a thought.

And yet Slick, you stopped by to watch.

Be that as it may, I think Dave got him upset when he mentioned his beard being scratchy and so forth, but I don’t think he wanted to be there in the first place from his mumbled speech.

If it was an Andy Kauffman sketch I think Dave would have caught on since he had Kauffman on his show many times. Joaquin was playing the serious artist card.

This was horrible! He’s such a good actor, it’s a shame he can’t continue his acting career. I only hope he doesn’t go the same way as his brother, River Phoenix.

He was obviously under the influence of heroin or some heavy psychotic medication. He was way gone, his speech was barely coherent, was the beard and stragly hair real or a disguise?

It was pathetic to watch.

I watched a portion of the video and it’s pretty clear that this is a young man struggling with mental illness. Often people in this sort of state self medicate as well adding additional grief to themselves and the people around them. It’s my hope he will find the help he needs and we as a society will begin to recognize these situations for what they are. I realize the audience means no harm with their laughter for the situation but what concerns me most is a perceived inaction by the the people who could be of assistance to a person who’s in danger of losing their life. Deaths from mental illness play like an endless bad movie reel. How many more famous and non famous people need to be allowed to slip over the edge before we stop laughing and start helping. Let’s hope this guy isn’t the next one in a starring role.

You’re the entertainment editor and you didn’t realize this was a joke? They both almost start laughing in the middle.

Do some research. This is an act as part of his fictional mockumentary.
