‘La Boheme’ inspires another trip to the opera
I love dramas and musicals, but it’s been many years since my last trip to see a production by Opera Theatre of St. Louis. The last opera I attended, ‘The Marriage of Figaro,’ was called a “dramatic and scenic mess” by opera critic Sarah Bryan Miller. Fortunately, a new production is slated for next season.
But I was intrigued by this season’s classic opener, ‘La Boheme.”
Our critic’s review indicated it needed a little fine tuning, but I enjoyed the show and found that the words being displayed improved my understanding and appreciation. For people who have strayed from opera or who have never tried it before, this production might be a good place to start.
As Sarah Bryan Miller noted, new picnic basket food is now available, which sounds quite tasty. If you’re on a budget, bring your own morsels and enjoy the same pre-show ambiance, which is one of St. Louis’ unique summer experiences.

Welcome to the media circus. I'm Charles Williams, online entertainment editor and operator of this ride.
Who dragged you to that lousy “Marriage of Figaro”? I’m glad to hear that OTSL is going to try again next year.
