The new Indy: a sneak preview

“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” was screened for critics around the world today at approximately the same time: 1 p.m. Central and 8 p.m. in France, where is was the big attraction at the Cannes Film Festival. Two hours later, thousands of critics and bloggers whipped out their tiny keyboards to pass judgment on Lucas, Spielberg and Ford.

The consensus is that the movie is good, if not great. I’ll say my two cents in the Get Out section on Thursday (and online on Wednesday night, when the first public screenings will commence). But for now I’ll say this: It’s got everything a geek or completist could want from an Indiana Jones movie. Hair-raising chases through breathtaking scenery? Check. Colossal effects? Check. Creepy crawlies? Check. Running gags from previous installments? Check and double check.

I’m serious–bring a checklist.
