Breakfast with Batman

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

It’s no longer a big deal when theaters offer midnight screenings of highly anticipated new movies. I bet that somewhere in this world–Canada maybe–there were even midnight screenings of “The Love Guru.” But interest in the new Batman movie is so high that many of the midnight movies on July 18 are already sold out. So some theaters will be showing the movie in the wee morning hours as well.

Locally, you can see “The Dark Knight” at Ronnie’s at 3:20 a.m.. Then it will be at St. Louis Mills at 6:15 a.m. Or if you sleep through your alarm clock, you can race over to the Chesterfield Galaxy at see it at 6:45 a.m.

If you’re one of the poor suckers who will be working the concession stands at that ungodly hour, you can blame Heath Ledger, whose Oscar shoo-in performance is responsible for much of this hype.

…are you kidding me? Heath Ledger is responsible for this hype? This is the second film of the most honest and true Batman series to be produced.

“…are you kidding me? Heath Ledger is responsible for this hype? This is the second film of the most honest and true Batman series to be produced.”

I can agree with your statement but the fact that Ledger past away just after filming coupled with all the Oscar talk about his performance is also responsible for a lot of the interest shown by those who wouldn’t generally go to see a film like this.

He’s definitely a factor.

I think post number 2 is right. Its Heath Ledger that will bring the casual person to see the Dark Knight. Its nerds like me that love this franchise and comics in general that have the midnight seats (at the Galaxy mega screen). I’d have had my tickets no matter what had happened.

I will say that if this performance is everything its billed as, its a shame we won’t get another look at it. But with the director they have and the cast of Batman characters that exists, we can only hope for more in this series.

Now if only they could get Superman on track. That last movie was sooooo close. Almost all the casting was spot on (except Lois Lane). But they had a real contrived boring threat and the super son plot is just bad. It doesn’t work at all.

Whoa…wait a Second…Heath Ledger is dead…hmmmm, musta missed that one. Really? Did it make the news at all…are you serious?

the movie where he played a knight and jousted was an oscar worthy performance, I thought. He nailed that whole accent thing with no problem.

Well, I hope he didn’t do anything to tarnish his image…like star in some gay cowboy movie…imagine that. A gay cowboy movie, who’d see that? Probably about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Well, I’m going to check the wires to see if he really passed on. (sigh) to bad there isn’t a way to get information immediately or if there was some sort of resource one could use at home to be connected with the world…maybe Al Gore will come up with something.

In addition to the 6:40 AM show on the Mega Screen (Galaxy 14 in Chesterfield), there’s a 3:20 AM show there, too.

It’s also in IMAX at 3:20 AM at Ronnies. And, of course, there’s the slew of midnight shows all over St. Louis and metro IL.

I definitely will see it opening weekend - not sure I’m a 3:20 AM kinda guy, but I ain’t as young as I used to be…

For anyones information
as a comic fan and a 28 yr old male that has been waiting for comic movies to be taken serious, this is the 2 main reasons this movie is going to blow away STAR WARS, PIRATES, TITANIC, JAWS, GODFATHER and GODFATHER PART2, SUPERMAN THE MOVIE,SPIDERMAN 1 2 3

1. When you see these trailers as a comic fan or a fan of BATMAN BEGINS, you know this is what you have been wanting since RICHARD DONNERS SUPERMAN movie. Serious, fast paced, 2 hours plus to tell a great story of 3 men attempt to take down Gotham or put Gotham back together(refer to BATMAN BEGINS)and the birth of a character that was WAAAAY misintrepeted in the horrible BATMAN FOREVER. Every review I have read is the only complaint is the runnign time..GET THE H*** outta here. If you can write a review and maybe draw comparasions to HEAT and the GODFATHER PART2 and say in the same sentnce that those movies are great, why arent you complaining about the running time of the those films
HEAT-2 1/2 hours plus
GODFATHER PART 2- 3 hours plus

2. Heath Ledgers death will draw in the MOVIE GOIN crowd. As a comic fan I dont care about his death. Its meaningless to me that this guy played a crazed luntic and had to put down to Graphic novels that Chris Nolan provided to him for research. I dont care if Ledger had nightmares of the JOKER. Oscar shoo in is a bit reaching(AKA Mark Mulder status) or the fact this guy had drug issues that cost him his family and his close friedns were one of the Olsen twins??!!

So to recap will I be their at midnight..no I have a job that would like me in at 7am sharp so maybe im not a hardcore fan but that is just how the batarang lands.

Richard Donner\’s Superman was as a big a travesty/slap in the face to the Superman franchise as the original The Incredible Hulk was to that franchise. Both trash. Superman Returns was so close to being excellent. Except for the entire plot was bull-excrement. Hulk by Ang Lee was cinematically phenomonal. Not just because of Sam Elliot\’s mustache, but it had substance, and it had the qualities that keep Comic Book Geeks entertained to their comics. This film will not be better than The Godfather Two. There is a level of greatness that films reach, where none are better than the other. The Great movie diagram is not a pyramid, its a trapezoid. Its level at the top. Hopefully this will reach the top.
