Costner promotes regular-guy movie in the Ozarks this weekend

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Kevin Costner’s no snob. In L.A. 20 years ago, I knew his personal assistant from her Mizzou days, and she dragged him to one of my keg parties. This Sunday, July 6, Costner will be in Springfield,. Mo. to preview his new movie “Swing Vote” and to raise money for river conservation and breast-cancer research.

In theĀ  film, which will be released nationwide on Aug. 1, Costner plays a beer-drinkin good ol’ boy whose one vote will determine the outcome of the presidential election.

Costner will do a meet-and-greet for VIP ticket holders from 5 to 6:30 at the giant Bass Pro Shops sporting-goods emporium, then he will attend the screening of the movie at the Campbell 16 Cine.

Tickets are $250, and the proceeds will benefit the Upper White River Basin Foundation and the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. Call 1-800-646-3474.

On Monday, Costner and his cowpoke rock band Modern West will perform at the Bass Pro Shops company picnic. What a guy.

let’s hope this film doesn’t suck as badly as the last 4-5 films that Costner had made. Other than “No Way Out,” “Bull Durham,” and “The Untouchables,” he had made some real stinkeroos for the last decade or so.

And no–I do not consider “Dances With Wolves” a classic. It was way over-hyped in my opinion.

Mr. Brooks was a very good movie by Kevin Costner. So was The Guardian. However, he tends to fall into the same type of character as in Bull Durham, Tin Cup, For the Love of the Game.

I can attest to Kevin Costner not being a snob. We are both alumni of the same fraternity and he is quite active in supporting it. When I was involved in it he was at the height of his stardom but he was a consistent presence. Usually winding up at some rat hole bar late at night buying beers for a bunch of us idiots. Great guy who has made more good movies than bad ones, but boy some of those were really bad….
