Encore, dude! Jack Black set for “School of Rock 2″

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Although I  haven’t been a sucker for coming-attractions scuttlebutt since Jim Carrey quashed my lifelong dream of a “Gilligan’s Island” movie, I’m happy to hear that Jack Black has signed to make a sequel to “School of Rock.” That pitch-perfect 2003 comedy about an oafish rocker who poses as a subsitute teacher was a rare mashup of critical and popular appeal. Directed by Richard Linklater (who helmed both the earthy “Dazed and Confused” and the ethereal “Waking Life”) and written by Mike White (who earned his indie cred with “The Good Girl” and “Chuck and Buck”),  it earned $131 million at the box office  and made numerous Top Ten lists (including my own).

The three principals will return for “School of Rock 2: America Rocks,” in which the teacher takes his musical prodigies on a pilgrimage to the great shrines of rock and blues. I assume they visit Graceland and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the Mississippi crossroads where blues guitarist Robert Johnson traded his soul to the devil. But it won’t be a proper tour without a stop in St. Louis to catch Chuck Berry at Blueberry Hill–and to lay a wreath at the former home of Budweiser.

Who are the other 2 of the 3 principals?

Joan Cusack and the guy that played Ned(Don’t know his name but he’s in Mike White’s stable as he’s been in both TGG and CAB), Sarah Silverman - she follows the band around the country trying to sabotage them for ruining her relationship with Ned (ala Carrie Fisher in the blues brothers!).

Who are the other 2?

I meant star Jack Black, director Richard Linklater and writer Mike White.
