The three faces of Lambert Field, opening Friday nationwide

Those of you who toiled as extras in the Tim Robbins flick that rented Lambert Field last year will get to see the results on Friday. Now titled “The Lucky Ones,” the soldiers’ homecoming comedy also co-stars Michael Pena (”World Trade Center”) and the delightful Rachel McAdams (”The Notebook”). But after seeing the movie twice, I can attest that it’s our humble airport which steals the show. Lambert not only portrays itself but also McCarran Airport in Las Vegas and JFK Airport in New York. (It’s amazing what a few slot machines and Big Apple appliques can do to spruce up a place.)

There are also scenes in an unidentified St. Louis suburb (which is so generically affluent I suspect it’s one of the O’Fallons), at the Jim Lynch Hummer dealership in Chesterfield (which is supposed to be somewhere in Indiana) and at Mojo’s Music Store in Edwardsville (which is supposed to be in Denver).

Congratulations, St. Louis–from certain angles you look like everywhere else.

I’m so excited to see this movie has finally hit the big screen! I was lucky enough to play an extra in the film, and after becoming aware that the movie was out, I had to check out the trailer…Assuming I’d just be a blurred peon in the background, I was siked to see that not only was I not blurred, but I even made the trailer! I’m the blonde walking into the Airport right next to Michael Pena when they announce him as a lead actor in the movie - so exciting! I hope we’ll be seeing more Hollywood in St. Louis!

Tim Robbins is an Obama fan…I can’t see this film.

I happened to be getting of a plane from Minneapolis and exited the baggage area when I saw Tim Robbins with 2 people sitting with him. They seemed amused for a few minutes when he wasn’t noticed. I went up to say hello and that I was a huge fan when he explained to me that he was on “the official airport greeting committee”! I thought it was great that he was so down to earth. It didn’t take much more time before people started to figure out who he was. He really was a genuinely nice person and it was a real pleasure to meet him.

I guess looking like Denver beats looking like NYC as a prison in the future. I’m guessing that didn’t take a lot of work.

Wait a minute..isn’t he paired with that Susan gal and don’t they hate this country? Why would anyone pay to see him?I think most of us would be thrilled to see them both leave…ASAP.

Hey, instead of claiming to be somewhere else, why aren’t we claiming to be what we are? We are not Indiana, nor are we Denver or New York or Vegas. Why can’t we just say “this is St. Louis” if that’s what it really is?

Calcool…I know what you’re saying…anyone who doesn’t like this country should go live in Uganda…bunch of jerks!!!

Um, Amber…
Did you mean “PSYCHED”?? As in psyched up, excited, thrilled?
Sheesh.

Whoops, yes, thanks “Speller.” I was at work on lunch and was in a hurry to get a blog in, but yes, totally psyched up - excited - thrilled - all of the above. Good thing they didn’t need me to pass a spelling bee in order to be an extra…

Oh, and thanks for the kudos DieHardCardinal, the 16 hours of shooting was worth the one second!

Ah, the reason I moved away from St. Louis. It has no defining characteristics.

Hey, Colin. I grew up in St.Louis and now I live in Hollywood. I’m sure St.Louis will be just fine without you. From the sound of it, your defining characteristic is being an obnoxious, moron. Personally, I miss St.Louis and wish more places had ITS characteristics.

Nope - can’t see anything with Robbins in it that could possibly involve making him wealthier. And there’s a long list of other ‘entertainers’ who won’t get a dime from me, if I can help it.

Gee, Miles and Cal, if your criteria for entertainment is that the performers have to be in lock-step with your politics, well that’s just sad. I guess you’ll be staying home, watching Fox Noise and making Rupert Murdoch a lot richer. Nice - send your money to an Australian pornographer.

I agree with you Greg. I relocated to San Francisco, but really miss living in St. Louis. It’s a great place!

I too am living in the Bay Area and miss STL tremendously (a lot of times, read STL newspaper on line before reading my own area :). I’m proud to be from STL. The sense of “home” and “community” is not felt the same out here in Cali.

It’s funny how jerks like Colin will post the reasons they left the area like they were enlightened to a level beyond everyone else, yet they still read the local paper online. Colin, nobody cares. Go pester your new local paper with your snooty comments.

Another thing, Colin, do a web search on “Gateway Arch”. You must have missed it when you lived here. Was it because your nose was too high in the air or was your head too far up your a$$?
